Football, as we all know, is the most popular sports ever, particularly in the US. Of course, there’s the basketball, baseball, and other sports aside from it. But how can you really say that a particular sport is popular? Should it be measured in the number of viewers, season ticket holders? Surely, football has many answers to that.
If we are talking about the revenue to determine the number one sports in America, football may be the answer. Did you know that an NFL football player receives an average salary of around $1 M annually, not to mention the TV appearances or/and product advertisements they are engaged with, especially as the player becomes well-known.
Aside from our admired players, through football, TV networks are earning million bucks as well. Networks are competing for television rights and commercial advertisements, meaning there are lots and lots of people watching football. In fact, the NFL earns about 2.2 billion bucks a year from TV ads alone.
In terms of the game venues in measuring a sport’s popularity, well football has a fight, since an average football stadium can accommodate 70,000 people. Meaning, the more seats available, more people are coming to watch the game.
Ticket cost can be counted as a factor. As a ticket averagely costs more or less $71, which is not so affordable compared to watching some other live sports. But despite the fact, football still receives thousands of viewers surrounding the whole stadium. If that aspect is included, then football is surely the most famous sports of all.
The players, of course, may it be inside the field or not, have been a big factor in the industry. Aside from their product advertisements (as I mentioned earlier), whether a player did a charitable act, had a serious injury on a game, had been drunk –driving, or whatever, it will surely be in the headlines with plenty of coverage in different networks.
Surely, football has been a great influence to all of us, not just to the Americans, but to other citizens as well. And hopefully, it will still continuously soar in the world of sports, making its own legacy in the history.
